Steller is an an app which you can download to your iPhone and where you can enjoy the works of others as well as create your own stories with your own pictures. We hope you like it!// Why have we started this project called Norwegian Made? Because we believe that Norway has a proud history of handcraft, skills and traditional production methods which have been developed over the centuries and thus developed to be what they are now. Because when you buy something that is Norwegian Made, you are making an investment. You are ensuring norwegian jobs and investing in trades that could otherwise be lost or replaced by mass manufacturing and the poor practices that come with it. You are investing in the skill of a maker who has pride in what he does and in the quality products he creates for you. Because when you buy Norwegian Made you are buying a true story. A story of hardship, endurance, dedication, quality, skills and history. When you choose a Norwegian Made you become a part of this story and the long tradition that stretches backwards and forward in time. Norwegian Made means belonging. We're building community - will you please join us? Last weekend we visited the makers marked Dyrsku'n. All these fantastic products and their skilled makers - it was a great experience. We got to know so many interesting people and will be traveling around to see their workshops and giving you a glimpse behind the scenes. Yesterday was spent in the screen print studio of Pål Gunnes at his beautiful farm in the forest of Siljan. We feel so lucky to know Pål and to be able to use his skills and expertise. These prints will be turned into pillows, pouches and kitchen towels, which we will sell to endorse our support-the-makers project Norwegian Made. Our motivation to work with Norwegian Made is the pride we feel to be a part of the norwegian cultural heritage. We love to use all the traditional, handcrafted tools we've inherited from our family, to eat from vintage, norwegian earthenware and to dress up in our national costumes. We feel closely connected to the norwegian landscape, history, and natural materials and we want to secure the future of this tradition. Contemporary economic developement pushes more and more of the traditional, norwegian workshops to produce their goods in low cost countries, and as a consequence, the old handcraft tradition is in danger of being lost. Through Norwegian Made we want to contribute to the continuation of the norwegian handcraft and production. We want to keep tradition alive and at the same time to support the new generation of designers who uses the old crafting methods to produce modern goods. To achieve this goal, Norwegian Made will publish information about the various handcraft makers and design companies that have chosen to keep all of or a big part of their production in Norway. We will do this on different social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Steller, in addition to on this homepage and blog. To found our project, we will sell Norwegian Made promo products in our own internet store, which we are hoping to launch this fall. We will visit the workshops, tell you their stories and show you their products. We will explain why norwegian products are quality products and why they are not as inexpensive as other products. We will show you why they are worth the price, and that a product made to last, made with quality materials and made with dedication and love has such high value. Our highest wish is that you want to support us in our effort by following our travels and our stories. |
